Old Jaffa House 3 by Pitsou Kedem

Minimal and impressive architecture by the Israeli based company Pitsou Kedem with the renovation of a single family house in Jaffa, the former port city to the south of Tel Aviv, Israel. Parts have been added and modified over hundreds of years, resulting in a series of dark and crowded spaces with different heights.

The renovation gave the opportunity to homogenize the rooms and to illuminate the dark spaces by opening them on the sea. The ornaments added over the years to the arches of the ceiling were removed and then covered with white plaster. On the other hand – the impressive dome in the kitchen, which had been covered with layers of plaster, was discovered. The ground level was unified and a new raw concrete floor was poured. The newly integrated spaces are not closed with doors, but left open. The openings that connect them are accented by a coating of black tin sheet.
